DIY Dried Mint

DIY Dried mint. It’s as simple as it can be. And so easy to make and stock up.

Making dried Mint is one of the easiest thing to do. When fresh mint is in season, I make it a point to stock up my pantry with at least few bottles of it. So I can use up in summer. And also at times when fresh mint is not in stock. It comes very handy during these times.

Pick out the green mint leaves and wash it under tap water. Rinse well and pat dry with tissue paper or kitchen towel. Spread in a tray and keep under sunlight for a day or two.  If there is no sunlight in your house like mine.  No worries. Keep aside in a corner. Don’t forget to cover with a thin  muslin cloth to avoid any dust setting on it. Drying process completely depends on the climate you are living in. It took me 3 days to dry it out completely. I had kept it in a covered tray on the top of my oven.

Drying process can also be done in a microwave, but you will loose all the minty aroma and  flavor. Drying in natural environment keeps all the aroma intact with flavor. Now the question is where to use dried mint. Use it in biryani, kebabs, lemonade and also for tempering different dals. Sometimes the flavor of fresh mint is so strong that it overtakes the entire recipe. To balance it  use dried mint.
