Sookhe Kaale Chane is a very humble dish. Mostly made during ramadan and eid, this delicious dish is easy to make and fully packed with flavors.

Sookhe Kaale Chane is mostly prepared during ramadan. And also for the eid day to serve the guest. You will find many recipes for Sookhe Kaale Chane around the web. But the recipe which I am sharing is special. Reason being there is an addition of  special homemade masala called Thanda Masala  which gives this recipe a unique taste.

Sookhe Kaale Chane Thanda  masala is our family recipe and used in few of the dishes like Ande ka Salan, Macchi ka salan, baigan ka salan,  matar ki chaat and sookhe kaale chane.  The process of making Sookhe Kaale Chane start with soaking kaale chane in water for 5 hours or overnight. Later its has to be boiled in pressure cooker  with salt for 5 to 6 whistles. Once this process is done, we can prepare the dish in a jiffy.

Sookhe Kaale Chane

Ingredients

(I)

100 gm Kaale Chane/ Black Chickpeas

2 glass Water for Soaking

2 glass Water for boiling

Salt to Taste

(II)

2 tbsp oil

1/4 tsp cumin seeds/jeera

3 tbsp onion Chopped

1/2 tsp green Chilly paste

1/4 tsp ginger garlic paste

1/2 tsp red chilly powder

1/4 tsp turmeric powder

1/8 tsp Thanda Masala

1/8 tsp coriander powder

4 tbsp chopped green coriander

1 green chilly finely chopped (optional)

salt to taste

(III)

To Serve: Chopped Onion , Coriander leaves and lemon wedges

Method

  1.  Soak the Kaale Chane in water for 5 hours or overnight. Remove from water. Add fresh water , salt and soaked kaale chane in a pressure cooker. Cook till 5 to 6 whistles or till done. Cool
  2.  In a pan heat up the oil. Add cumin seeds.
  3. Once it crackles  add in onion. Fry onion till translucent.
  4. Add in ginger garlic, chilly paste , turmeric and red chilly powder coriander powder & thanda masala. Fry for a minute.
  5. Add in boiled chana  along  with water. Cover and cook till all the water has completely dried up and all masala starts coating the chana.
  6. Garnish with onions , coriander and green chilly. Serve hot with lemon wedges.
